Live On the Green is Nashville’s Eco Conscious concert series. As Tennessee's Outdoor Leaders, Lightning 100's Team Green Adventures is helping to incorporate eco-friendly practices and sustainable choices into Live On the Green.  Team Green's goal is to connect the Nashville community with a passion for the outdoors through unique experiences. Team Green's leadership of Live On the Green incorporates many aspects of sustainability including low waste, recycling, re-using materials, reducing energy, engaging participants with green initiatives, and highlighting local food. In an effort to offset our carbon footprint during the event, below are some of the many Green Experiences you’ll have at Live On the Green:

Food Waste: Leftover and unopened food items from food vendors will be brought back to their restaurants and re-stocked, donated or composted.

Green Roof: Live On the Green takes place on Nashville’s Public Square green roof at Metro Courthouse, a 2.25 acre green roof on top of a 5 level subterranean parking garage.

  • This state of the art structure incorporates a 57,000 gallon rainwater collection system that is used for irrigation of the green roof through out the year.
  • A phenomenon known as the “Urban Heat Island Effect” is impacting many large cities. This result is from overheating of hard surfaces such as roofs, parking lots, side walks, and roads. Green Roofs reduce the Urban Heat Island Effect by introducing more green space to absorb heat effects from the sun, and prevent storm water runoff.

Low Waste Event: As part of Live On the Green's goal to produce a low waste event, we have partnered with Earth Savers to provide recycling next to every trash bin.  Volunteers from 2nd Harvest Food bank are stationed at each bin to assist and answer questions related to what and how to recycle. Additional efforts we are taking for a low waste includes:

  • Food and drink vendors produce less waste by only supplying enough for expected sales, and offer more environmentally friendly packaging and distribution. Much of the food is offered as finger food thus reducing the amount of waste from plates and plasticware. Beer is served in recyclable aluminum cans and recyclable plastic bottles, which can be recycled on site at the Recycling Stations.
  • Manned single stream Recycling Stations are located around the event for aluminum cans, plastic cups and paper products. No glass permitted.
  • Recycling “flags” at the Recycling Stations are made from last year’s Live On the Green banners.
  • Participants are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottles to the event. Metro Water will have tap water available on site, thus reducing the need for plastic water bottles.
  • Print collaterals and fliers are discouraged at booths unless they are multipurpose (ie. handouts that also function as coupons or membership forms). Participants are encouraged to only take fliers that they intend to use, and leave remaining fliers behind at the booth for future use.

Merchandise: All merchandise for sale is made from eco-friendly materials and inks. Many of the merchants on site are local to Middle Tennessee.

Cell Phone Recycling: BRING YOUR OLD CELL PHONES NEXT WEEK! Live On The Green is collecting used cell phones no matter the condition to recycle. The money from the recycled phones will go to Sound Forest, an organization that educates businesses and actively implements practices to live an eco-friendly lifestyle. Collection boxes are at Lightning 100 and Team Green Adventures booths.  If everyone brings in at least one phone we can plant at least 150 new trees every Thursday. Grab those phones from your junk drawers or wherever they are hidden and bring them to Live On The Green and help plant trees...please.

Signage: Disposable banners and signs are not permitted on-site. All banners on-site must be re-useable at future events.

Supporting Local: Part of offsetting our carbon footprint includes supporting our local economy and reducing the costs and waste associated with travel for out of town vendors and staging.

  • Many of the performers are local artists, or have their roots in Music City, which allows for a reduced carbon footprint of travel. If travel is needed, the artists have agreed use the most environmentally friendly choices of travel and accommodations.
  • We are working with community organizations local to Nashville such as Walk/Bike Nashville and 2nd Harvest Food Bank.

Transportation: A FREE Bike Check is available on-site for bicyclists who ride to the event. Team Green Adventures and Harpeth Bicycles are offering “Commit to Commute” rides from Centennial Park (West Nashville) and Nashville Bike Lounge (East Nashville) to encourage participants to ride together. Non-Cyclist attendees are encouraged to park at the LP Stadium and walk or use MTA’s low fuel emission buses across the river. Carpooling is encouraged. Or you can Ride the BUS!
